Election Day

The queues started last night, and thousands waited all night to be able to vote.  (We aren't so keen here in the U.K. !)

What happens after the election is less about who wins and more about how those who lose take their defeat.

Later:-  Its gone 4 p.m. here in U.K., and most of the polling stations in Kenya have now closed.   Some are continuing to let in voters because of the long lines of people who have been queuing for 12 - 18 hours, and because some very rural places were swamped by rain, and in the far north the ballot papers hadn't got to the polling stations .    But apart from some biometric ID machines not working, and some people finding their registrations had been muddled .... the election seems to have gone OK.   For an African country, its seemed fairly orderly.

A woman in West Pokot gave birth at the polling station, and decided to call the child Helen Chepkura, which means 'Election' !   And in Kisumu, an elderly man cast his vote and then died a few minutes afterwards.

Now we await the results ... and the aftermath ....

I discovered this morning that I could watch live NTV  online .... a Kenyan TV station !   So I've watched the election on and off for a lot of the day !
