An 1830 books about elephants

After I had posted yesterday, I was looking for a book I knew I had, and sure enough, I found the old book from 1830, part of a series in the 'Library of Entertaining Knowledge' .... The Elephant !

I suspect the illustrations were drawn by someone who had never seen a live elephant, as the proportions are decidedly odd.

Some of the descriptions are a bit gruesome .... it was once the custom in the Congo for 'the native to steal upon the unsuspecting elephant in his pasture and to cut off his tail with a single stroke of his rugged hatchet.'
