Meeting

Today we had a meeting in the HATW office for Wendy, myself, Jonathan and Nigel, who went out on the project in 2011, and has been out once more as part of a holiday.    It was good to be able to discuss the project, and for Wendy to meet Jonathan and Nigel.   David, the originator of HATW nearly 20 years ago, and who runs the charity, updated us on the money situation re the carpentry workshop.   Paul Achola has already booked Stephen who was the foreman builder on the last part of the building, and it looks like the work on the upper storey of the building will commence very soon; it might be half built by the time we get there !

David wants us to try and promote the workshop more with the local schools in Kisumu, and the sub-chiefs (the Kenyan version of local community councillors).   That will be interesting !  I'm not sure quite how I'll get on with that, being (a) a woman, and (b) white !!

Then he brought us up to date on the Athi school and the Disabled Community Centre  (DCC) in Maua where we will be going second.   It looks like we may spend some time going on visits with out-workers to visit the communities where the disabled children live, so we can get an idea of their home backgrounds.   I'm expecting to be challenged ... see this
