Then we go to Kisumu for three weeks, planning to paint the workshop and visit friends. Making friends with people running 'our' projects (they are really the projects of the local communities) is the whole point of HATW, rather than us just going, building something, coming home and forgetting !
I always remember that the core of HATW is summed up thus: 'Our hands around the world may get grubby and blistered, they may need to hold a sick child or comfort a grieving parent, they may sometimes be asked simply to hold the hand of another, but there is always more to these hands than practical help alone.'
